MASCOUTAH — The Mascoutah Steak House served its final customers Wednesday, July 1, bringing an end to the longtime local restaurant’s run.

Fred Hannan of the Mascoutah Steak House confirmed Wednesday that the restaurant has closed and asked that customers be aware the business is no longer open.

“Today’s our last day, and the Mascoutah Steak House will be no longer,” Hannan said.

Hannan said he did not want to discuss specific plans for the property because nothing has been finalized at this time. He said he hopes a new business will eventually operate at the location later this year, but emphasized that no agreements have been signed.

For now, Hannan said the most important message is to let the community know the restaurant has closed.

“I just want to let the community know that we’re closed and don’t drive here looking for an open door, because we will not be open after today,” he said.

The Mascoutah Steak House has long been a fixture in the community, serving steaks, seafood, sandwiches, burgers, salads and other American fare. The restaurant was also known for hosting private parties and community gatherings.

Hannan said he, Nicole and the restaurant’s staff “are grateful for the support through the years.”

No additional information about the property’s future was available at the time of publication.

My wife and I will miss our regular rueben and a beer lunches. I miss the potato soup already.
