City Roadway Construction to Begin Soon
MASCOUTAH — Roadway improvements are scheduled to begin later this month on State Route 177, with motorists advised to expect delays and lane restrictions as work progresses through July.
In a press release, the City of Mascoutah announced that the Illinois Department of Transportation will perform improvements on State Route 177, also known as Main Street, over the coming weeks.
According to the release, subgrade spot repairs are scheduled for the week of June 22. No work is expected during the week of June 29, and milling and resurfacing operations will begin the week of July 6 and continue for approximately two weeks.
“Motorists should expect occasional lane restrictions, delays, and increased construction traffic throughout the project area,” the city stated in the release. “Please use caution when traveling through work zones and allow extra time for your commute.”
The city said the work is intended to improve the roadway and thanked residents for their patience during construction.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as these improvements are completed to enhance the roadway for our community,” the release stated.
City Manager Cody Hawkins said the project will consist of milling and resurfacing Main Street from Mine Road to County Road.
Hawkins noted that the upcoming work is separate from a larger reconstruction project planned for later this decade.
“This is not the full rebuild of Route 177 that will happen in 2029 or 2030,” Hawkins stressed.
A complete rebuild is still to come, which will include removal of the road, with some areas having not been touched for over 100 years.
Drivers traveling through the area during construction should anticipate temporary traffic impacts and use caution in work zones.
