Community Support Shines at Holy Childhood Church Blood Drive

The Mascoutah Blood Drive was a success, with 56 doners attending to help the red cross meet their ever growing blood drive goals.
MASCOUTAH – On Thursday, June 19, the Holy Childhood Church hosted a successful American Red Cross blood drive, surpassing its goal thanks to strong community participation.
A total of 56 individuals came out to donate, resulting in 64 units of blood collected. The original goal had been set at 55 units. Among the donors, 13 gave “Power Reds,” a type of donation that collects double the red blood cells and is especially valuable in treating trauma patients. Four individuals attempted to donate but were unable to, and three people donated blood for the very first time.
Volunteer Karen Wobbe, who regularly helps coordinate the event, remarked on the full tables and consistent turnout throughout the day. “A blood drive brings out the best of so many people,” she said. “Friends, family, strangers, businesses and organizations pitch in where they can.”
In addition to the donors, several local organizations contributed to the drive’s success. The Mascoutah VFW provided ice, and the Mascoutah Tuesday Women’s Club contributed homemade cookies for donors. Holy Childhood Church not only hosted the event but also supported volunteers behind the scenes. Volunteers helped with registration, snack service, signage, set-up, and clean-up.
Even Mascoutah’s local McDonald’s played a role—standing by to donate 18 pounds of ice when the Red Cross nearly ran out.
“It takes a village,” Wobbe noted, “and I am happy to say mine is Mascoutah.”
