Mascoutah Man Sentenced to Three Years for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse Against a Minor

Reid Setterlund

Mascoutah — Reid Setterlund, a 48-year-old Mascoutah resident, has been sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after changing his previous plea of not guilty to guilty on three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in a plea deal. The sentencing took place on December 5, 2024, with Judge Zina R. Cruse presiding.

Setterlund was accused of engaging in sexual solicitation and sexual abuse of two juvenile females under the age of 18 at his residence, on or around the date of February 24, 2023. Setterlund is a music instructor and has a private business, “Reid’s Music Lessons,” where he teaches private music lessons from his residence at the 500 block of August Street in Mascoutah, IL. Setterlund, who was 48 years of age or older at the time, knowingly committed acts of sexual conduct with the victims.

Setterlund was arrested on April 27, 2023, and remained incarcerated throughout the legal process. His time in custody will be credited toward his sentence. The three-year sentence is to run concurrently for each of the counts, meaning that he will serve a total of three years.

The charges stem from incidents involving a minor, reported to have occurred on February 24, 2023, in Mascoutah. Grant Menges served as Setterlund’s defense counsel.

I used to know him. I think he might have some mental issues, because he seemed pretty normal. Don’t take it from me though, I don’t want people to think I’m siding with him. I most definitely am not.

The BND article would indicate he did not serve prison time and is registered on the sex offender list with a Chicago address. What happened to the three years??
