Three-vehicle crash closed I-64 near Mascoutah on July 15
MASCOUTAH — A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 near Mascoutah closed the eastbound lanes for more than four hours Wednesday and sent at least two people to the hospital.
According to Illinois State Police, Troop 8 officers responded at approximately 12:08 p.m. July 15 to a crash at milepost 25 in St. Clair County.
At least two occupants were transported to a local hospital with injuries. Eastbound traffic was diverted off Interstate 64 at the Illinois Route 4/Mascoutah exit while the roadway remained closed. The interstate reopened at approximately 4:30 p.m.
The Mascoutah Police Department assisted at the scene, but Illinois State Police are leading the investigation.
The Mascoutah Department said a child involved in the crash was flown from the scene by medical helicopter in critical condition but had no additional information on the child’s condition.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police.
