Carol L. Stein

Carol L. Stein, nee Mayer, 88, of O’Fallon, IL born Jan. 13, 1938, in Belleville, IL died Friday, May 15, 2026, at her home.

Carol was a retired secretary from O’Fallon School District 90 and a member of O’Fallon United Church of Christ, O’Fallon, IL.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marie, nee, Pahlman Mayer and a brother, Philip Mayer.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Stein whom she married in O’Fallon, IL on Feb. 9, 1957; sons, Keith (Angela) Stein and Kenneth (Katie) Stein; daughters, Karen (Dean) Hill and Kay (Craig) Kaffenberger; grandchildren, Devon, Richard (Rikki) Stein, Wendy, and Brianna Stein, Emma, Abbi, Tom Gatewood; great granddaughter, Josephine Stein; sister, Dianne (Frank) Hildreth; sister-in-law, Geraldine Schneider; and family and friends.

VISITATION: From 4 to 8 PM, Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 South Lincoln Ave., O’Fallon, IL 62269 and from 9 to 10 AM Thursday, May 21, 2026, at O’Fallon United Church of Christ, 206 W. Adams St., O’Fallon, IL 62269.

FUNERAL:  A funeral service will be held 10 AM Thursday, May 21, 2026, at O’Fallon United Church of Christ in O’Fallon, IL with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating. Burial will follow in Mascoutah City Cemetery.
